COCONUT OIL — God has provided yet another one of those multi-use natural products that is incredibly versatile. Not only is coconut oil a vital part of our nutrition, but I use it all the time in my beauty regimen. For these reasons and many more, it’s not something I ever want to do without. In my opinion, it is truly a shame women of my generation and prior knew nothing about this wonderful stuff! Growing up in the ’50s and ’60s, Crisco was the alternative cooking fat. Ugh! Knowing what I know now, it's not something I would ever use today.
For me, this amazing coconut oil is a fairly recent find. I've discovered it is super nutritious--one of the healthiest fats we can consume, in addition to butter and olive oil. (Interesting how we've been led to believe the opposite for the last 40+ years...) Also, something to consider: it is actually better to use coconut oil for cooking rather than olive oil since the melting point is higher and will not oxidize as it would using olive oil. (76 degrees Fahrenheit vs. 21 degrees Fahrenheit) One more thing to note, I prefer buying organic extra virgin as opposed to expeller-expressed and heated, refined oil. It's just healthier! For these reasons I always have a container or two sitting on my pantry shelf, as pictured here.
So whether for cooking or as a cosmetic, I always keep a small jar of it in my bathroom drawer as well because it is particularly good for removing eye makeup and as an alternative moisturizer. Other amazing benefits and facts you may not know about coconut oil is that it has anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties.
